Coffee #1 founder seeks sites for new café concept

James Shapland, founder of Coffee #1, is seeking sites in ‘neighbourhood centres' and high street market towns across south Wales and the West for a new café concept.

Coffi Lab is described as an "authentic retail coffee brand in a neighbourhood setting". Property consultancy EJ Hales has been engaged to find suitable properties. Coffee #1 said it has "ample funding to support a rapid acquisition strategy".

Hannah Gillard will be joining Coffi Lab as managing director next month, having previously worked as finance director at SA Brain & Co.

Shapland sold Coffee #1 to Welsh brewer and pub company SA Brain & Co in 2011, with Caffè Nero buying a majority stake in the business in 2019.
