Averil Wilson promoted to MD of Apex Hotels

The 10-strong Apex Hotels group has promoted Averil Wilson to the new role of managing director.

Wilson had moved into the position following eight years as finance director of the Edinburgh-headquartered company. She will report to chief executive Angela Vickers.

A chartered accountant, Wilson will oversee Apex Hotels' business operations, resources and ventures.

She said: "Over the past eight years, I have witnessed the growth of the portfolio, from seven hotels to ten across the country. I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to take on a wider role within the business which I have seen go from strength to strength.

Vickers added: "Introducing the new role puts Apex in an ideal position for further growth through acquisition and diversification, ensuring that we are agile enough to make the most of any available opportunities."

In Apex's most recent financial results for the year to 30 April 2019, the group reported a 9.5% increase in turnover to £75.4m, with pre-tax profit up 51% to £11.8m.

Founded by Norman Springford in 1996, Apex Hotels remains family owned operating hotels in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Bath.
