Bude nightclub operator buys Exeter gastropub

Nightclub owner John Justice has bought the popular Blue Ball gastropub in Exeter through JJ Leisure, the expanding Bude-based company he founded in 2000.

The thatched, 16th-century pub has seen its popularity soar since the Exeter Chiefs built their new rugby grounds nearby and Justice has already set up free transport between the pub and the grounds.

Located just off junction 30 on the M5 at Sandygate, the Blue Ball offers two bars with eating areas to seat around 54 diners, along with an adjoining 40-seat modern restaurant.

As part of the sale, JJ Leisure also bought a former office to the side which has planning permission for conversion into four en-suite letting bedrooms.

Other facilities include first-floor private accommodation comprising two double bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom while outside there are trade gardens and a patio.

Stonesmith of Exeter sold the leasehold (which runs for 20 years from 2000) off a guide price of £125,000 on behalf of Colin and Janice Sparks.
