Backpacker hostel operator buys Hammersmith pub

Interpub, which operates 14 backpacker hostels in the UK and Europe, has bought a brand new lease on the former George pub in London's Hammersmith Broadway.

The George - a four-storey, listed Victorian property - is one of 500 former Spirit managed pubs that Christie + Co has put on the lease market on behalf of Punch Taverns.

The business comprises a 100-seat single bar, a function room/restaurant on the first floor, and owners' accommodation made up of four self-contained flats and four single bedrooms.

There is also seating for another 18 customers on the beer patio to the rear.

Interpub intends to convert the bar into its Belushi's bar/food brand and to turn the upper floors into accommodation under its St Christopher's Inn name. It will be its seventh in the UK capital.

The London office of Christie + Co sold the new lease off an advertised premium of £105,000, with rent set at £73,000 per annum.
