Hawkstone Hall & Gardens in Shropshire now open as a 37-bedroom hotel

The Grade I-listed stately home Hawkstone Hall & Gardens in Shropshire has now fully opened as a 37-bedroom luxury hotel.

Set within 88 acres of grounds, the 18th century mansion near Shrewsbury has undergone an extensive renovation since 2017 when it was acquired by the Distinctly Hospitable Group. The company said that the refurbished property is now "one of the most opulent hotels and exclusive wedding venues in the UK".

The main building, reached via a mile-long driveway, features 12 suites, while the adjacent Orangery wing comprises a further 25 bedrooms.

The extensive public spaces include the main hall, ballroom, saloon, refectory, library, tapestry room and winter garden. The hotel's restaurant will open on 5 June.

Designer Kay Petrouis has exposed a number of original features of the building and used an English heritage colour palette throughout.

Hannah Petrouis, group development director, said: "Hawkstone Hall & Gardens is one of only two Grade I-listed buildings in Shropshire. After two years of renovations, the property has been restored to its former glory and we are looking forward to welcoming guests. It has been a major project and we have thoroughly enjoyed uncovering some of the lost and hidden features of the building and splendid gardens."

Hawkstone Hall was originally built d as a family home by Richard Hill in 1707, before later becoming a resident for Catholic missionaries from 1973 to 2017.
