Marriott buys remaining stake in AC Hotels

Marriott International has bought the remaining 40% stake in AC Hotels from its founder Antonio Catalán for a reported €140m (£121m).

A statement from the group said: "During the first quarter of 2019, we closed on the purchase of the remaining 40% joint venture interest in AC Hotels, resulting in the company owning all of this highly successful and fast‐growing global brand."

The hotel group joined forces with Catalán in 2011 to operate the design-led, lifestyle brand as a co-venture; Catalan originally founded AC Hotels in Spain in 1998. The brand debuted in the UK in 2016 with the launch of hotels in Manchester and Birmingham (pictured).

Marriott now has 265 AC hotels open or under development around the world, including four in the UK. AC Hotels by Marriott is one of the group's 30 brands.
