Birmingham's Royal Angus hotel being converted to a Doubletree by Hilton

The former 133-bedroom Royal Angus hotel in Birmingham is undergoing a £25m transformation into a 186-bedroom Doubletree by Hilton property.

Owned by investment company Downing, the hotel will be operated by Black and White Hospitality Management when it reopens in the autumn. The hotel previously operated under the Thistle brand.

Two extra floors and a roof terrace are being added to the building, which will feature two Marco Pierre White-branded concepts: a Mr White's English Chophouse restaurant and Marconi coffee shop.

Nick Taplin, chairman and chief executive of Black and White Hospitality, said: "The Royal Angus was one of Birmingham's best-known hotels and was the epitome of style and sophistication in the 1970s and 1980s. For DoubleTree by Hilton to bring one of its flagship hotels to Birmingham shows that it places the city in high esteem as a business and leisure destination.

"Its location, which is close to the business district, means it is perfect for business people needing somewhere for meetings, and to have two Marco Pierre White venues also on-site also gives the venue added kudos for those looking for somewhere to stay and eat when visiting the city."

Black and White Hospitality specialises in the management of both branded and independent hotels, with a portfolio that includes Hotel Indigo Birmingham and DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol South.
