New bedrooms at Andaz London Liverpool Street reflects the gritty East End
A £10.5m refurbishment, referencing the gritty, quirkiness of the East End, has been unveiled across the 267 bedrooms and suites of the five-AA-star Andaz London Liverpool Street.
Originally opened as the Great Eastern hotel in 1884, the property has been operated by Hyatt under its lifestyle Andaz brand since 2007, after being sold the previous year by Conran Holdings and Blackstone Real Estate
Having undergone an extensive renovation to relaunch under the management of Conran Restaurants (now D&D Restaurants) in 2000, Conran and Partnersnow returned to the hotel to carry out the current redesign.
The latest refurbishment intends to combine the hotel's history and heritage with the gritty element of East London, such as the tattoo art on the tan-leather bed headboards, which represents the silk weavers that used to dominate Shoreditch's textile industry; the wall mural behind the in-room Nespresso machine, which pays homage to the first coffee shop nearby; and illustrations in the bathroom by local artist Sophie Mo.
The rooms have pinstriped carpets, a nod to the former uniforms of the nearby bankers, with stitched denim fabric around the base of the bed in recognition of the area's sartorial past.
The bathrooms preserve the timeless metro tiles from the original Conran design nearly 20 years ago, complimented by a number of new modern features, such as matte black brassware and the British skincare brand REN.

"The newly designed rooms represent this dedication to the district, by not only incorporating the heritage of the hotel, but also reflecting the soul of East London, encapsulating many of the unique and special stories which have aided it's growing popularity.
