Wetherspoon celebrates expansion
Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has reported an increase in annual turnover of almost £50m on the previous year.
The group's preliminary results for the year ended 2 August 1998 reveal turnover leapt 35% from £139.4m to £188.5m.
Other highlights show operating profit jumped from £22.9m to £28.4m while profits before tax and profits from the sale of properties climbed from £17.6m to £20.2m.
The group opened 68 pubs in the year, an increase of 20 on the previous 12 months, bringing the total number of outlets open at the end of the year to 252.
Chairman Tim Martin said: "I look forward to another year of good progress for the company."
