Unhappy with the terms of my new contract

Question

I have been working as a chef in a hotel for two years. The management wants me to sign a new contract with different terms to those when I started. Can they do this? How often can they change the terms and conditions of employment to their benefit?

What the expert says

!Á‚
Any employer can ask its employees to sign a new contract at any time, but it cannot impose one without giving due notice, which is normally three months. I would expect that your management has discussed with you the changes they want to make and why. If you do not sign your new contract, your employer could assumeÁ‚ you have resigned. On the other hand, if you continue to work, it could be assumedÁ‚ you have agreed to the new terms. If you have concerns about the new contract, talk to your management as I am sure they will want you to be comfortable with the changes.
