WESTLER Foods has redesigned its entire product range to ensure it is free of GM foods.

It conducted a survey of all its ingredient suppliers and from the results, was able to establish which products might have been affected and to redevelop them where necessary.

Ian Breese, executive chairman, Westler Foods, says: "All reasonable precautions have been taken to ensure our range of products no longer contain GM ingredients. However, along with other food manufacturers, we can't offer an absolute guarantee that, at any given time, our products will be totally free of all traces of GM material. This is because our suppliers are no longer able to offer an absolute guarantee to us, primarily due to the risk of cross contamination in the fields and during harvesting. That aside - and to the best of our knowledge - we confirm that all products we now manufacture do not contain GM protein."

Westler Foods is the market leader of hot dogs, 732, both meat and vegetable based, as well as frankfurters. Other products include Multi Menu, 733, meat and vegetable based canned meals; Single, 734, a range of ambient microwave meals in nine varieties and Casa Fiesta, 735, Mexican products such as tortilla chips, taco shells and cheese products.

Recipe booklets are available.
