St Regis to debut in Jakarta
Starwood is to open its first St. Regis property in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, with the opening of the St. Regis hotel and residences located on Jalan Jendral Sudirman. The newly built property, which is set to open in 2011, will be positioned to serve the city's business community. The hotel will offer 176 guest rooms and 284 whole-ownership residential units and will include more than 5,000sq ft of meeting space, an all day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, a health club, swimming pool, business centre and a spa.
Marriott to open 100 hotels in 100 daysMarriott International plans to open more than 100 hotels in 100 days, and expects to open its 3,000th property by the end of 2007. The majority of the new hotels, which will include 16 conversions, will be located in North America with more than 90% of them comprising Marriott's select service and extended-stay brands and most of the properties being franchise hotels. The properties include a new Courtyard hotel in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, as well as hotels in Ashbourne, Ireland, and Tijuana, Mexico. Marriott also plans to open properties in Charleston, South Carolina, and New Orleans, as well as several JW Marriott and Renaissance hotels in the USA.
Carlson bans trans fats Carlson Hotels Worldwide plans to ban the use of trans fats in food preparation at the majority of its hotels by the end of 2007. This includes more than 600 of its Radisson hotels & resorts, Park Plaza hotels & resorts and all of its Country Inns & Suites by Carlson and Park Inn hotels with food and beverage services on-site throughout the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and South America. Carlson is also encouraging its hotels to move to alternative trans fat-free products for pre-prepared menu items. The company said that pilot testing for the phase out began in early 2007 to ensure that the change can be made without compromising taste, quality and consistency.
Golden Tulip to add hotels in Scandinavia and the UK Golden Tulip has taken management control of its first hotel in Denmark. The company said that the addition was part of its strategy to have 30 hotels in Scandinavia, with a mixture of managed and franchised properties. Separately the company plans to open three hotels in the UK by autumn 2008. The 126-room Golden Tulip York will form part of the new Barbican Centre complex in York, while the company will also look to add the 122-room Tulip Inn Doncaster. In West Sussex, the 204-room Tulip Inn Gatwick will be built on the Manor Royal Business Park in Crawley, two miles from Gatwick airport.
