Sky Sports pundit Barry McDermott opens Bay Horse pub in Meanwood

Sky Sports pundit Barry McDermott turned up to the official opening of the Bay Horse pub in Meanwood, Leeds last week.

The pub, which is run by award-winning licensee Carmel Daly Fletcher and her husband Paul, has been completely refurbished to create six distinct trading areas: a sports area where the walls are adorned with sporting memorabilia collected by Paul who was former coach to Leeds Rhinos; a "chill-out" area where comfortable furnishings have been installed; the dining area where traditional home-cooked food will be served; and the community area where tables are positioned to view both the screens and the garden area, where a brick built barbecue and outside bar will serve customers.

A first-floor function room has been created for community use.

"We had a phenomenal opening night" said Carmel. "All week we have had people popping in and out to take a sneak peek at the new look bar, and they turned up in crowds to help us celebrate the reopening with Barry. We had the added bonus of a few other rugby players who came to join us on the night."

The "significant" cost of the refurbishment at the pub, which is leased from Enterprise Inns, was not disclosed.
