Pub landlady fined for handwritten ‘No Smoking' signs
A home-made "No Smoking" sign has landed a pub landlady with a £300 fine.
Handwritten posters were put up in the Judge and Jury pub in Colywn Bay, North Wales, while landlady Dawn Lemm waited for official signs to arrive.
But inspectors who visited the pub found that Lemm's signs violated regulations, which decree that No Smoking signs must be rectangular with the shortest side at least 6.3in long, according to the Daily Mail.
The posters did not feature "a graphic representation of a burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle with a red bar which crosses the cigarette symbol" either.
Lemm declined to pay a £150 fixed penalty. At Llandudno magistrates court she admitted failing to ensure proper signs were displayed and was fined £150 with £120 costs and £15 victims' surcharge.
She described the decision as "ridiculous".
