Prime Minister visits Molson Coors as it invests £28m in Burton brewery

Prime Minister David Cameron has visited Molson Coors' Burton brewery as the brewer announced a further investment of £28m in its manufacturing facility.

The new investment takes the brewing giant's spend on the site to £65m.

Cameron inspected the new £21m bottling line at the Burton Brewery, which produces 1.2 billion pints of beer a year.

He said: "Giving businesses the confidence to invest is a key part of our long term economic plan.

The new buildings and technology includes an energy centre, which will help Molson Coors meet its commitment to reducing energy use by 25% and cut greenhouse gas by 20% by 2020.

Simon Cox, managing director of Molson Coors UK & Ireland said: "We are excited to be investing further in Burton Brewery and its workforce as we continue our redevelopment programme. Funded by the biggest investment in our industry for decades, the new infrastructure and technology at the brewery will maintain our rich heritage of brewing in Burton."
