Patrick Dempsey wins Outstanding Contribution award at Hotel Cateys 2013

Patrick Dempsey, managing director of Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants, received a standing ovation this evening for winning the Outstanding Contribution award at the Hotel Cateys 2013 for his work on spearheading the Big Hospitality Conversation to get young, unemployed people into work.

Spurred on by a determination to wipe out youth unemployment, Dempsey, with the support of the British Hospitality Association and Springboard, has made the government sit up and listen and encouraged other industries to follow a similar strategy.

Dempsey was one of 17 winners at the glittering awards ceremony held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. They included David Mead-Male, concierge at the Royal Crescent hotel, Bath, who saved the life of a pensioner who collapsed outside the property by administering cardiac pulmonary resuscitation. He won the Extra Mile Award.

Comedian Milton Jones provided the entertainment, while charities Hospitality Action and Springboard benefitted from the evening's fund-raising efforts.
