MPs put up fight for overtime pay

Catering staff working in the members' tea room at the House of Commons are waiting to hear if they will have their overtime pay reinstated.

Overtime pay was abolished in March last year but six MPs have issued an Early Day Motion stating that they welcome the decision by authorities at the House to restore overtime pay rates for staff in the members' tea room and refreshment department.

No such decision has been made and the authorities are still discussing the issue with the GMB's Hotel and Catering Workers' Union.

Sue Harrison, director of catering services, said: "The move has had a big impact because staff have to work until the house rises."
