Is a room division management scheme right for me?

Question

I'm 28 years old and have 10 years' experience working in luxury hotels and resorts in Europe, including as concierge and front desk supervisor. Currently I'm working as housekeeper team leader in a five-star deluxe hotel. I'm planning to go the USA to join a room division management programme, which will last 18 months, and gain more experience at the front desk.

Is this the right way to move up to the position of room division manager and then maybe to general manager?

You have certainly gained a variety of good experience, and the room management programme will stand you in good stead for future development. My advice would be to gain experience in sales, F&B and finance departments. This would add to your skills and experience and should help you to become a general manager in the future.
