Insecurity for Cardiff County

A CARDIFF in-house caterer caught in political crossfire over the location for the new Welsh Assembly faces uncertainty about its future at the City Hall.

Cardiff County Catering, which has catered for City Hall functions for nine years, is being kept in the dark while the Secretary of State and the Welsh Office wrangle over costs incurred if the site becomes the new home for the Welsh Assembly.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the Government plans to employ mobile caterers for the European Summit to be hosted by the City Hall in June, because the existing kitchens will be unable to cope.

Refurbishment started last month but, because of uncertainty about the building's future, the kitchens have been excluded from the programme.

"Until the politicians sort it out, we don't know what will happen," said Cardiff County Catering's direct services manager Christine Jenkins.
