Gallery adds rooftop eaterie

The National Portrait Gallery has opened an 80-seat rooftop restaurant. The Portrait Restaurant & Bar, situated 92ft above ground level, is to be operated by catering company Searcy's and run by head chef Kerwin Browne. The main restaurant area seats 60, with an adjoining 40-seat lounge where snacks and drinks can be served.

The average spend per head is expected to be £25 and the restaurant will operate at lunchtimes and Thursday and Friday evenings.
