Cornwall head brewer awarded Institute of Brewing & Distilling Fellowship
The head brewer from a Cornwall distillery has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) after record sales for the brewery's beer.
He was also commended for his involvement in training younger staff for qualifications such as Master Brewer, which he himself achieved via the IBD. Simon Jackson, executive director of the IBD, presented the award at the IBD's Southern section Annual General Meeting, in London's Chiswick.
The Fellowship accolade is only given to employees who show long-term commitment, responsibility and consistent dedication to the brewing and distilling industry.
Peter Channon, secretary of the Southern section of the IBD, said: "Roger has been in the industry for 25 years, and has contributed greatly to the IBD through his support of younger members. Roger's experience and support of the IBD has proved invaluable, and I am delighted to be able to award him with the Fellowship."
James Staughton, managing director of St Austell Brewery said: "The impact Roger has had on the business has been immense - he has created some of our most popular brews and helped increase our sales and turnover exponentially. Being able to meet that demand has helped us to expand into national retailers and to increase exports abroad, both of which will be key markets for us in 2014."
Worldwide membership organisation and charity the IBD was founded in 1886, and helps develop educational skills and professional achievements within brewing and distilling.
