Chinatown dispute continues
A trade union has vowed it will continue to picket a Chinese restaurant until it reinstates or compensates four former staff members. The Transport and General Workers' Union claims the four men, all waiters, were made redundant from the New Diamond restaurant in London's Chinatown for no good reason. The union picketed the restaurant and, after it did so, the restaurateur's solicitor issued an injunction telling it not to picket it again. Last week the dispute was heard at London's High Court, where the injunction was lifted. After the hearing the union picketed the restaurant again. If the dispute is not resolved by November, the union plans to take the restaurant's owners to an industrial tribunal. Dave Turnbull, regional organiser for the union, said: "We will continue to picket the restaurant each Friday."
