Chef pledges tattoo of workplace logo in bid to raise £500 for owners' ill grandson

A Somerset pub chef has promised to get a tattoo of her workplace logo if she raises enough money to help the owners' ill grandson.

Abbi King, who has worked at the Bell Inn, Evercreech, near Shepton Mallet, for 13 years, is aiming to raise £500 for Lachie Carlton, grandson of pub owners Ian and Kirsty Carlton, after the three-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Lachie, who lives in Australia with his family, is currently undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat his condition.

King plans for any money raised to be sent to the family, for costs such as hospital parking, and will have a tattoo done of the Bell Inn logo if she reaches £500. She will pay for the tattoo herself. King reportedly already has several tattoos, and isn't fazed by this latest plan.

Speaking to local newspaper website This Is Somerset

She said the Carltons were "part of the family".

Mrs Carlton added: "People are so kind; I'm absolutely amazed by the good wishes and kind thoughts. There's so much support, people being caring… This is a very much appreciated gesture."

There is a collection box in the pub itself, but King is also accepting cheques to help reach her goal.

Open seven days a week, the Bell Inn is an independent pub with three bedrooms and a beer garden, serving simple pub fare such as soup, breaded fish, jacket potatoes, and steak and chips.
