A NEW class has been introduced to the Heart of England Salon Culinaire at Hospitality Week '99, taking place at the NEC Birmingham.

The Gategourmet Masterclass challenges chefs to come up with a main course suitable for service on a first-class flight.

Ten chefs from across the country have been shortlisted. The dishes, which have to be prepared, cooked and served in 30 minutes, have been "selected to reflect the latest culinary ideas from around the world".

The top prize is two return flights to New York, while the runner-up will receive two return flights to Switzerland. The third-prize winner will receive dinner for two in a London restaurant.

For a full preview of Hospitality Week '99, and for details on how to attend the exhibition, see page 56.
