Caterer and Hotelkeeper – 25188

The Arundell Arms hotel at Lifton, Devon, and the Bryn Howel Hotel & Restaurant at Llangollen, Clwyd, have become the first in the Best Western consortium to gain three AA rosettes for their restaurants.

Head chef Philip Burgess - pictured with hotel proprietor Anne Voss-Bark - has been at the Arundell Arms for 14 years. He has recently worked on developing a more varied and imaginative menu, as well as offering the fish dishes the restaurant has built its reputation on.

The award to Bryn Howel marks a hat trick for the hotel this year, following its nomination by Financial Times readers as the winner in the newspaper's 1995 Lunch for a Fiver promotion, and the victory of its sous chef Rod Peterson in the Welsh Chef of the Year competition.
