Burger King launches nutrition guide

McDonald's may have won its obesity court case in the US, but it appears that rival fast-food operator Burger King is taking no chances.

Burger King has launched a nutrition guide on its website that lists every product it sells and gives a breakdown of nutritional content.

Now consumers cannot plead ignorant of the calories, saturated fat or cholesterol intake involved when they feast upon their fast-food favourites.

An original Whopper, with the usual trimmings, weighs in at 710 calories, according to the website, and contains 43g of fat and 85mg of cholesterol. Those going for a double Whopper with cheese will be taking on board 1,070 calories.

US fast-food operators may still be a little nervous after the highly-publicised legal wrangle this year involving two teenagers who tried to blame McDonald's on their weight problems.

Although the case was dismissed by a New York judge, lawyers have warned that a flood of obesity-related lawsuits could follow.

Burger King's nutrition guide was launched in line with its new Fire-grilled Chicken Baguette product line. The sandwiches contain 5g of fat and are under 400 calories.
