THE WHITE Horse in the High Street, Kimpton, has scooped the top Community Pub Award for the East of England.
It was nominated by its customers and beat 500 pubs for the Award, sponsored by the Brewers and Licensed Retailers Association.
Peter and Janet Johnson were presented with a cheque for £1,000 in recognition of the pub's tireless charity work and involvement in the local community. The couple and their customers have raised £12,500 in the past 12 months for a variety of local causes.
They have decided to donate the £1,000 cheque to the Kimpton Scout and Guide Building Fund. Johnson says: "The Fund is building a new headquarters which means all the children in the village will benefit. We are over the moon about winning the award."
The pub attracts a mixed crowd varying from old age pensioners, business people and young people.
To keep floors spick and span, Janet likes SC Johnson Professional's One Step Floor Cleaner, 510, which is used on all the floors - "You dilute it with water and apply it onto the floors using the mop and it really does the job.".
The product is used on all wooden floors and the newly laid Altro Stronghold 30 safety flooring, 511. "We've only just had this flooring laid and it's brilliant as it is slip-resistant even when wet," says Johnson.
For heavy duty cleaning, Janet uses SC Johnson Professional's Cleaner and Degreaser, SC Johnson Professional 2, 512 . "This is for floors which have heavy traffic and really get mucky," she says.
When the floors have been cleaned, she uses SC Johnson Professional Floor Finish, 513, which is mopped on and left on to give floors a shine. "It lifts the colour and protects the floors."
To clean the bathrooms, Janet is a great fan of Jif, 514, for wiping the surfaces.
She finds Domestos, 515, works well for the toilets and urinals. She adds: "In addition, the urinals have Nilco disinfectant blocks, 516, which cleans as they are used."
The bar has been French polished so all it requires is a wipe with a damp cloth and it is then buffed with a clean cloth.
For wooden tables and chairs, she likes SC Johnson Professional Clean and Dust, 517, in a handy aerosol, which is simply sprayed onto the area and then dusted off.
For glass and mirrors, Johnson uses Nilco glass cleaner, 518, to keep them sparkling clean. "It's a good product as it doesn't leave smears on the mirrors," she adds.
Janet relies heavily on the Emperor dishwasher, 519, and Emperor glasswasher, 520, machines. In the machines, she uses Soilmaster liquid, 521, to clean dishes in the kitchen and Emperor Glasswash Premium Liquid, 522 to keep glasses spick and span.
