New tenant for Wroxall Abbey

Trinity Hotel, a consortium of private investors, has agreed to take a new 100-year lease at Wroxall Abbey Hotel & Estate, which closed and fell into administration last year.

The consortium is said to be made up of individuals who have previous operational experience in hotels located in the UK, Middle East and Asia, and will be refurbishing and redeveloping the estate over the next few months. Paresh Thakkar and John Nair are listed as persons with significant control of the business on Companies House.

Dating to the 12th century, Wroxall Abbey in Warwickshire is a Grade II-listed, 72-bedroom country house set within 27 acres of open parkland with 12 main conference and meeting rooms, two restaurants and two bars. On-site facilities include a swimming pool, spa and three outdoor tennis courts plus a large permanent marquee for up to 650 guests.

Tom Cunningham, hotels director at Savills, said: “With its interesting history and stunning setting, opportunities to acquire the lease to a building such as Wroxall Abbey are exceptionally rare so we’re delighted to have secured this deal on behalf of our client.”

The four-AA-star property closed and the company that owned it fell into administration last year, having been owned by the private company Wroxall Abbey Estate since 2001. John Kent and John Clarkson were listed as having significant control over Wroxall Abbey Estate on Companies House. Mark Malone and Gareth Prince from Begbies Traynor were jointly appointed to handle the administration of the company on 22 October 2019.

Wroxall ceased trading on 31 July following financial difficulties but entered an arrangement with Signature Living to operate the hotel for eight weeks so the business could continue while a sale of assets was further explored. However, the hotel was closed when the arrangement ended.
