Work gets underway today on the development of a 16,500 sq ft spa at the four-AA-star, 71-bedroom Coniston hotel in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Located adjacent to the hotel with views over a lake within the 1,400-acre grounds - set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales - the spa will include a 15m swimming pool, thermal suite, gym, dance studio, treatment rooms, relaxation and dining areas, and an outdoor pool and terrace.
Mark Green of Curveline Design and spa consultant Nicki Kurran have worked on the creation of the spa, with financial backing from Yorkshire Bank.
Michael Bannister, chairman of the Coniston hotel, said 2015 would be an exciting year for the hotel. "We're expecting that before the end of the year we will have created a fantastic new facility for our hotel guests and local residents, and one that will not only create many new jobs but will bring more visitors to this part of the Dales for years to come".
The spa will create 35 jobs and is set to open in late autumn.
Owned by the Bannister family for 40 years, the Coniston was named Yorkshire's Large Hotel of the Year by Welcome to Yorkshire in the White Rose Awards.
