Restaurant and luxury spa announced for Langdale Estate

A £4.2m spa and restaurant redevelopment has been announced at the Langdale Estate near Ambleside in the Lake District.

The 200-seat restaurant, named Stoves, is scheduled to open in February 2016, while the enlarged and updated spa is planned for July 2016.

The redevelopment follows the 2013 opening of a £3.2m luxury boutique hotel on the estate. The 16-bedroom Brimstone hotel, where rooms cost from £275 a night, achieves 85% year round occupancy and offers guests anything from side by side slipper baths to 24/7 complementary drinks and snacks in its reading room.

"The hotel has been very successful and is up there with the best in the North, so we are now wanting to bring the restaurant and spa up to the same standard," said sales and marketing director Dan Visser.

The new restaurant, which is to occupy the site of two existing restaurants on the estate, will offer modern British cuisine and will reflect the demand for a varied dining experience. "Stoves will have fine dining but you will also be able to order a burger," said Visser. "Everything will be top quality and sourced regionally."

Among the features intended to make the restaurant stand out from the competition will be a range of seating areas to suit different moods, a wine room, an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven and a chef's table where guests will be able to interact with the chef as their meals are prepared.

The new spa, which will replace an existing spa and a further restaurant, will boast a heated infinity relaxation pool, an outdoor fire with a covered seating area, seven `thermal experiences' and 10 treatment rooms. A double treatment suite will be available for hire by the day or half day.

The estate, which comprises a mix of Scandinavian-style lodges and hotel accommodation, is owned by Langdale Owners. The company was formed from a group of timeshare owners who came together to buy the property from Scottish & Newcastle Breweries in 1996.
