More than 100,000 sign petition to commemorate hero waiter

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition to get a plaque mounted on London Bridge in memory of Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, who died trying to help a woman who had fallen into the River Thames.

Olubunmi-Adewole, 20, who worked as a commis waiter at Cinnamon Club restaurant in Westminster, entered the water at around midnight on 24 April after seeing the woman fall.

Both the woman and another man who jumped in to help were later rescued by the coastguard and Met Police's marine unit, but sadly Olubunmi-Adewole was not found after an extensive search, police said.

Vivek Singh, executive chef at the Cinnamon Club, described him as a well-liked and "selfless" individual.

A GoFundMe page set up to support Olubunmi-Adewole's family has raised nearly £150,000. To sign the petition, click here.
