Islington sausage concept X-Upper to close after two months of business

Sausage concept X-Upper in London's Islington will close after roughly two months of business due to low footfall, the restaurant's operators have confirmed.

X-Upper's menu was developed by chef James Tanner, co-owner of the Kentish Hare in Royal Tunbridge Wells, and Francesco di Marzio, former executive chef of two-Michelin-starred the Greenhouse in London. The pair used ingredients selected from tastings of 513 sausages across 14 European cities.

However, the site became one of a list to have failed on Islington's highly saturated Upper Street in the past 18 months, among the likes of the Chinese Laundry, Cabana and Trawler Trash.

In a statement on Facebook the restaurant operators said: "We have had some great customer reviews and feedback since opening, but unfortunately we have struggled to get enough new customers to try us for our investors to continue supporting us.

"It's been an incredible pleasure to have hosted you, and served you our artisanal sausages. Please pass by again before 5th May if you can as we'd love to have you again for lunch/dinner. Big thanks again to everyone who supported us."
