An initiative which involved guests donating £1 for every stay at Guoman and Thistle hotels has resulted in an impressive £82,000 being donated to hospitality charity Springboard UK.
A cheque for the amount was handed over by Colin Roy, commercial director for Guoman and Thistle hotels, to the charity's chief executive, Anne Pierce, at London's Dorchester hotel last night.
As well as raising the money through guest donations, the staff held a number of fundraising events, including a 457-mile cycle from the Thistle Heathrow to the Thistle Glasgow, which raised £1,481.25.
Pierce said she was "thrilled" by the donation, which will be used to help young people, particularly those facing multiple barriers to work, into careers in hospitality, leisure and tourism. "Our programmes will provide an on-going way to make a real impact," she explained.
