Chef Simon Rogan is to take over the restaurant of the newly renovated Linthwaite House hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere in Cumbria, with a new concept that draws inspiration from his travels around the world.
Rogan, whose Umbel Restaurant Group includes two-Michelin-starred L’Enclume, in Cumbria; one-Michelin-starred Roganic, in London’s Marylebone; one-Michelin-starred Rogan & Co, in Cumbria as well as Aulis London and Aulis at L’Enclume; will open Henrock at the hotel in October.
While Rogan’s existing UK restaurants are deeply rooted in British traditions and ingredients, Henrock will draw inspiration from the chef’s travels, including those in Asia where he has recently opened outposts of Roganic and Aulis in Hong Kong.
Rogan said: “Since opening L’Enclume in 2002, it’s been a hugely exciting and humbling journey. Today, we have five UK restaurants holding four Michelin stars amongst them and have recently opened Roganic and Aulis Hong Kong. It feels like the right time to be strengthening our offering in the north of the UK, a place we call home, with a fantastic team in place and in such a truly unique and stunning setting.”
Henrock, which takes its name from Hen Rock – a rocky outcrop protruding from Lake Windermere – will offer small sharing plates, with signature dishes set to include raw aged beef, elderberry and shiso, halibut baked in cabbage leaf, bay shrimp and pink pepper, as well as fried apple pie, miso butterscotch and cassia clotted cream.
The kitchen will be led by head chef Brian Limoges, formerly of Quince, Birdsong and Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, who will utilise produce from Rogan’s farm, situated less than 30 minutes from the hotel.
The four-AA-star, 30-bedroom, Linthwaite House hotel was acquired by South African group, Leeu Collection, for an undisclosed sum in 2016.
