Brewhouse & Kitchen announces pre-tax loss after failed systems implementation

Announced in the firm's full results for the year ending 29 September 2018, the steep decline followed a pre-tax profit in the previous period of £575,200.

Turnover increased by 21% over the period from £11m to £14m, while the firm's total gross profit margin stood at 73%.

The loss follows an unsuccessful attempt by the company to bring accounting systems and functions in-house.

In its strategic report, the firm put the decline in its numbers down to "an increase in running costs, a growing head office to support the growth strategy and considerable exceptional costs for the unsuccessful systems implementation".

The firm now operates in 24 brewpubs, including sites in Bedford and Southsea which opened during the period, as well as the refurbishment of its Cardiff site.
