Former Junior Chef of Wales Andrew Tabberner has revealed plans to open the Gaerwen Arms pub in Anglesey, where he will celebrate the produce of the island.

Tabberner (pictured, left), who won the competition in 2015, will open the food-based pub with business partner and fellow chef Oli Thompson (pictured, right) and is aiming for an opening date towards the end of July.

He said: "We're coming back onto the island that helped us fall even further in love with our passion for cooking.

"Opening in time for summer this year, we can't wait to share our new venture at the Gaerwen Arms combining local producers and suppliers with seasonal menus and an inspiring wine selection."

The 110-cover venue will be divided into a bar and restaurant, offering a more casual dining offer in the former. It also has outside space for 60 people.

Both the bar and restaurant menus will celebrate the produce of Anglesey. Tabberner added: "For me Anglesey has some of the best produce I have ever used, whether it's lobster, scallop, oyster, mussels and wild bass from Mon Shellfish sourced from the Menai Straights; stunning honey from Felin honey bees; the finest racks of lamb from Dolmeneir; or local veg from our supplier Meddwyn of Anglesey, who has won gold at the Chelsea Flower Show for 13 years in a row."

Tabberner was previously head chef of the Loft at the Bull Beaumaris in Anglesey.
