Bob Bob Cité will launch in London’s Leadenhall Building – dubbed the Cheesegrater – on 10 May, some 15 months behind schedule.
The opulent restaurant, which is marketed as a ‘brasserie for the 21st century’ will serve as the sister site to Bob Bob Ricard in Soho, which itself saw its opening delayed by 18 months.
The building of the restaurant is estimated to have cost around £25m. The interior includes 800-plus bespoke light fittings, 24 of them chandeliers, requiring more than 1,200 light bulbs. Each fitting was crafted by royal warrant-holders Dernier & Hamlyn.
Meanwhile, 12.5 km of mirror-polish steel trim, weighing more than 5.5 tonnes, line the walls. Each is held in place by 48,000 hand-polished ‘snake eye’ bolts, the inclusion of which prompted a separate structural assessment to ensure the floor could bear the load.
The kitchen will be manned by Éric Chavot, whose menu includes French classics like French onion soup, escargots, veal blanquette and daube de boeuf Provençal.
