Liam Brown named Amy McPherson's successor as Marriott Europe president

Marriott International has announced that Liam Brown will take on the role of president and managing director of Europe following Amy McPherson's departure.

McPherson announced her retirement last month after 32 years with the company, with the intention of leaving at the end of March 2019 to nurture a start-up business in the UK, as well as spend more time with her family in the US.

"Liam is the perfect choice to lead Marriott's next chapter of growth in Europe," said Arne Sorenson, president and chief executive of Marriott International.

A Dublin-native who has lived in the US for nearly 30 years, Brown has served in his current role (president of the company's select brands and owner and franchise services in North America) since 2013. He will relocate to Marriott's European office in London during the first quarter of 2019.

Since joining the company in 1989, Brown has held leadership positions including executive vice president, select service and extended stay development; senior vice president, Fairfield Inn franchising; and senior vice president, Residence Inn franchising. He started his career at Marriott and spent his first 10 years with the company in general manager roles.
