Liverpool council building gets go ahead for luxury hotel conversion

The former Liverpool City Council building will be converted into a luxury four-star hotel after the Fragrance Group received approval for the site.

The Singapore-based company will build the 185-bed site in the former municipal building on Dale Street, a Grade II-listed building. Amenities in the Falconer Chester Hall designed hotel will include a spa, gym and top-lit swimming pool as well as a restaurant and conference facilities.

Alastair Shepherd, director of Falconer Chester Hall said: "This is a significant commission for us to convert a building that had been at the centre of the city's public life for more than a century and a half.

"We will carry out a sensitive refurbishment of the existing highly decorative spaces and deliver a scheme the site and its history deserve.

"This consent is testimony to the close working relationship with Historic England and the council's conservation department."
