Polpo closes branches in Bristol and London
Venetian-inspired restaurant group Polpo has closed restaurants in Bristol and London.
A notice pinned to the door of Polpo at Ape & Bird, in London's Shaftesbury Avenue, announced it has closed permanently to allow the group to "concentrate on our core estate", reports London Eater.
The notice added that all staff have been redeployed to other restaurants within the group.
The Ape & Bird was brought under the restaurant group's umbrella in 2014 with a focus on small plates.
A Polpo site in Bristol's Whiteladies Road has also closed suddenly after being open for about 18 months, reports the Bristol Post.
Polpo has five remaining restaurants in the capital as well as venues in Brighton and Exeter.
The closures come just a week after The Caterer reported that 11 Strada restaurants were being shut permanently, along with a branch of Côte Brasserie and Kensington's Roof Gardens.
Today Byron Burgers has also revealed that is seeking a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) restructuring plan with more than a dozen restaurants under threat.
